Giving Students Hands-on Practice Creating Ad Mockups Using a Free Online Tool
Brief: This activity was part of my adaptation of Google’s online Digital Marketing & E-commerce course for a nonprofit I worked at as a Learning Experience Designer. The original online course was text-heavy and we needed a more engaging/accessible way to deliver the content to neurodiverse young adults.

The tools
After spending several lessons learning about digital marketing, I wanted students to put the concepts into practice in a realistic way.
Since I couldn’t set up real advertising accounts for students, I found two free websites that allowed them to create mock Google Ads instead. Students used the tools to write ad headlines and descriptions for a brand they loved, giving them an opportunity to apply what they had learned through a more authentic experience.
